Living Spaces

RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITY: Paulson Community | Turlock, CA | In-Progress

This proposed development consists of four separate structures which will function as a care facility for developmentally disabled ambulatory adults. Three of the buildings constitute the living environment for 15 full-time residents as well as support space for staff. A fourth community and administrative building will provide the support spaces for programs and activities, including a non-commercial food prep area, spiritual space, wellness space and office/administrative areas.

Each pod will house 5 residents, creating a smaller community within the larger program. Within these three pods, residential units surround a large gathering space that brings daylight into the open kitchen, dining and living area. This two-sided building acts as the gateway to the internal courtyard, accepting visitors and potential clients while providing a gathering place for residents of the three different pods to interact, engage and learn from each other. A more modern roofline suggests a differing internal program, with offices and admin fronting the public entry, and a large multi-purpose room surrounded by resident amenities on the courtyard side.
